Psychonauts: In the Rhombus of Ruin PC FAQ

Many users are affected by the same problems that have potential solutions or workarounds, which is what this FAQ is all about. Reminder: Always send your DXDIAG when emailing support!!

We’ll think you’re the coolest if you provide us with the following when you contact us:

* A description of the issue.
* Your Steam System Information report, and/or DxDiag.
* If you had a crash, you can send us a log. It should be located in the folder below

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\PsychonautsInTheRhombusOfRuin\Saved\Logs

Can I play this without VR?
Sorry, but no. This game currently requires either the Oculus Rift, or HTC Vive headset in order to be played. Attempting to start the game without either will produce a warning/error message that will block your progress.

Computers are fickle beasts and sometimes things go wrong. There are a few steps you can try that solve many of the random breakages that users encounter. If you post about an issue, very likely we’ll ask you to try one or more of these things first.

Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements

Minimum Requirements
OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 960 4GB / AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater
CPU: Intel i3-6100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200, FX4350 or greater
Memory: 8GB+ RAM
Hard Drive: 8GB
Other Requirements: An Oculus Rift, or Vive VR hardware.

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 480 or greater
CPU: Intel i5-4590 / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or greater
Memory: 8GB+ RAM
Hard Drive: 8GB
Other Requirements: An Oculus Rift, or Vive VR hardware.

* Reboot your computer. It’s a simple thing but it’s amazing how many problems this solves.

Ensure that your VR is setup properly and the software is up to date

Please ensure that your VR software for the Oculus Rift and/or HTC Vive are up to date or set up properly. Below are links on how to set them up.

Frame stuttering or low framerate.
Try lowering the resolution scaling. Lowering the scale should provide more optimal performance.

This can be toggled in the options menu. From the main or pause menu enter Options>Video.

Update your drivers!
Always ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. A vast majority of issues will be resolved by this.

As good practice, you should usually grab your updates from your graphics device manufacturer. Here are the links below

Verify the Integrity of your Local Game Cache.
You can do this by Right clicking on Psychonauts: In The Rhombus of Ruin in your library, choosing Properties, Advanced, and then clicking the Verify Integrity of Local Game Cache button. More detailed instructions are below,

Try deactivating heavy background processes
This include programs like like anti-virus, malware scanners, overclocking tools, recording software, or etc. On some computers these programs are so demanding that they significantly interfere with games. If this doesn’t solve your problem, though, be sure to turn your scanners back on!

Where do I find the save files?
The save files will be located in the folder below

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\PsychonautsInTheRhombusOfRuin\Saved\SaveGames (edited)

I'm outside the game area!
Provided that everything is set up properly, you should be able to recenter your position be placed back into the game area.

To reset on the Oculus follow the instruction below,

Open the Universal Menu by pressing the Select Button on your Oculus remote
Move your head to the position you want
Select Reset View from the menu on the right

To recenter on Vive, press the menu button on the left vive stick.
